A report to Herts County Council’s Resources and Performance Panel has revealed that its “Residential Strategy” has been delayed and is at risk of not meeting its targets.
A meeting of Herts County Council’s Resources and Performance Panel has been told that it is uncertain whether the council’s hiring freeze announced last week will close the gap caused by a projected £16.3 million overspend.
Both the government and the Conservatives who run Herts County Council must accept responsibility for the forecast £16 million overspend which has resulted in the council freezing the recruitment of all but essential staff.
The response to a Liberal Democrat motion has revealed that Herts County Council has made no progress on a promised highway drainage strategy after more than two years and it is not clear that the work will ever be done.
Liberal Democrats have attacked Herts Conservative’s refusal to allow ULEZ signs in the county saying that it will only increase the chances of Herts residents with older cars inadvertently entering the ULEZ area and being charged or fined.
Conservatives at Herts County Council blocked a Lib Dem proposal to set up "No Idling" zones near schools to reduce air pollution suffered by school children but the Conservatives voted it down saying they were already doing enough to improve air quality.
With the right investment, we have the opportunity to turn things around and ensure that every child, regardless of their background, has the chance to succeed.
